CHOOSE NOT TO BECOME A VICTIM

Being conscious of your personal safety will help you to feel as confident and secure as possible

PREVENTATIVE TECHNIQUES:

  • Be Aware of High Risk Times and Areas The highest number of rapes and attacks take place in parking lots, garages and public restrooms between 5:00am and 8:30am. Hijackings take place mostly in residential driveways, intersections and when off-loading/loading passengers.
  • Look Around Take note of your surroundings when approaching a lift, restroom or your car. If you notice someone suspicious loitering, get a security guard to escort you. Check your driveway and street before you leave or enter your property. Have your driveway well lit and clear it of shrubbery.
  • Limit Your Vulnerability Attackers look for "easy targets", like people talking on their mobile phones or searching through their bags while walking. Lock your car doors and do not have valuables visible in the vehicle.

SELF DEFENCE TACTICS:

  • Make a Noise
  • Fight Back If you have a pepper spray use it! Knee or kick a man in his groin. If someone raises their hands to you grab their first two fingers and bend them far backwards.
  • Run A mugger is more interested in your money than in you, so toss your wallet or handbag away from you and run in the other direction with as much downward pressure as possible.
  • Draw Attention to Yourself
